Ajith’s Mankatha to Rajinikanth’s Petta: Iconic intro scenes of the past decade

When you consider your star as an idol, you expect a darshan that befits a God! And that is what namma Kollywood fans expect when it comes to introduction scenes of their favourite stars. The amount of frenzy that marks the first scene when the hero makes his appearance is a testament to the star power of an actor. Here is a look at some of the most memorable hero introduction scenes that Kollywood gave us during the last decade…

Fans of Rajini were excited to the core when Karthik Subbaraj and Anirudh, self-confessed Thalaivar devotees, teamed up for Petta. The intro sequence which had goons setting out to finish off Kaali, played by the Superstar, was nothing short of a massive treat for the fans. When a bruised, but aggressive Rajini utters, “Naan veezhven endru ninaithayo?,” fans had every reason to cheer.

For a full-fledged action flick, the intro scene of the protagonist in Vishwaroopam was quite an unusual one as it had Kamal making impeccable dance moves along with a few female dancers. His character, Vishwanath, breaks into the popular song Unnai Kaanadhu, which provides the perfect platform for the Ulaganayagan to showcase his dance moves.

In this classic hero-entry scene, we see ACP Vinayak Mahadevan (Ajith, sporting a salt-and-pepper look), stepping out stylishly from an SUV, to save Faizal (Arvind Akash) while sending the goons chasing the man flying in the air. Even after almost a decade, this remains one of the favourite introduction scenes for Thala fans.

The introduction of Vijay in Kaththi is proof of how an exciting background score can elevate a well-made scene. The cops seek the help of Kathiresan to nab an escaped convict. Using visual effects, AR Murugadoss shows us how Kathiresan’s mind works, while Anirudh unleashes the beast mode in him with a tantalising tune.
