Kochadaiiyaan row: SC pulls up Latha Rajinikanth over non-payment of dues

The issues surrounding Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiiyaan, which released in 2014, continues haunting the Superstar’s family.

Now, the Supreme Court has pulled up Latha Rajinikanth, the superstar’s wife, for non-payment of dues.

It is said that Latha Rajinikanth’s production company Mediaone Global Entertainment, which bankrolled the film, had taken a loan of Rs 14.9 crore from a Bengaluru-based company Ad-Bureau Advertising, according to Firstpost.

Mediaone hasn’t paid back the loan entirely and has pending dues of Rs 6.2 crore.

In February, the apex court had given a twelve-week time to Latha to settle the outstanding amount. However, the settlement has not been made yet.

Now, a bench, headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi, said, “We don’t like people playing around with court orders. We think you should face the trial. If you’re innocent, you will be acquitted. Face the trial.”

Directed by Rajinikanth’s younger daughter Soundarya, the animation film used motion capture technology, which was a first attempt in India.

The film failed to impress the audience and turned out to be a box office dud. It had many big names as part of its team, including Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan (narrator in Hindi), and AR Rahman, who composed the music.
