Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay and Suriya protest over Cauvery, Sterlite issues
The who’s who of Tamil film industry participated in a protest held by the Nadigar Sangam in support of multiple issues that have been dominating the political landscape of Tamil Nadu. A symbolic silent protest was held at Chennai’s Valluvar Kottam on Sunday from 9 am to 1 pm to express solidarity with people protesting against the Sterlite plant in Thoothukudi and to put pressure on the Central government to set up Cauvery board.
Before joining the protest, Rajinikanth made a statement to the media and appealed to the Centre to follow the Supreme Court directions on the Cauvery issues without any further delay.
Actor Vijay, Suriya, Vikram, Dhanush, Sivakarthikeyan, Vijay Sethupathi, Sathyaraj and his son Sibiraj and Prasanth also attended the protest. However, the complete absence of leading female actors of Tamil cinema didn’t escape the attention.
The Nadigar Sangam office bearers, president Nassar, Vishal, Karthi, Ponvannan and others were also in attendance at the event.
Various political parties such as DMK and actor Kamal Hassan’s Makkal Neethi Mayyam have also taken part in anti-Sterlite protests. (File Photo)
