Annaatthe: Rajinikanth’s 168th film to be a throwback treat for all Thalaivar fans with nods to several of his old films

Whenever Superstar Rajinikanth announces his next movie, it’s not merely a film announcement, it’s an event meant to be celebrate and rejoiced till the day said movie releases, after which the celebrations and revelry don’t end, but only grow exponentially, especially if the film lives up to its hype. And if that project is Annaatthe, where Thalaivar will be seen sharing screen space alongside Lady Superstar Nayanthara, National Award winner Keerthy Suresh, stalwart Meena and the returning Khushbu, not to mention other veterans like Jagapathi Babu and Prakash Raj, then the excitement and anticipation would be hundredfold to what it usually is prior to a Rajini release. 

It’s no wonder then that the makers of his upcoming 168th film, Annaatthe, are keeping everything about the project closely under wraps. Well, try as they may, BollywoodLife has managed to land some interesting inside scoop on the project that’s sure to delight every Rajinikanth fan.

A well-placed source within Kollywood movie circles had exclusively informed BollywoodLife that Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe will see Superstar recreate the magic of yore, with the makers reportedly having decided to reference several of the actor’s older superhits from the 90s and early 2000s, with many of the mass scenes in Annaatthe said to pay homage to those big Rajini hits, including the dialogues, comic sequence and even some of the action scenes in the film touted to contain nods to his previous iconic moments on screen. Now if this piece of news doesn’t make every Rajinikanth fan skip a heartbeat, we don’t know what would.

Annaatthe is directed by Siva of Thala Ajith’s Veeram, Vedalam, Viswasam fame, and is produced by Kalanithi Maran’s Sun Pictures. It’s tentatively slated for release on 4th November 2021, provided the COVID-19 pandemic situation permits it to meet its release date.
