What superstar Rajinikanth’s “renunciation” from politics teaches us

Rajini apologised to fans and well-wishers who were highly anticipating his foray, saying only he understands the pain of making this announcement.

Superstar Rajinikanth recently announced that he wouldn’t make a foray into politics owing to his health owing to his prevailing health conditions and the larger risk of the COVID-19 pandemic and the new strain of the virus. In a three-page statement tweeted out in Tamil, the actor apologised to fans and well-wishers who were highly anticipating his foray, mentioning that only he understands the pain of making this announcement. Citing his health setback, Rajini mentioned the film producer’s decision to further postpone the shooting and the resultant financial losses and losses of livelihood. He called it a “warning from God”.

This teaches us an important life lesson that it is not always important to say ‘yes’ to everything. Rajinikanth’s decision to not join politics is a sort of renunciation.

It is most important, to be honest with yourself in life. In our society, people are taught to say yes, but no one teaches when to say no. But you can understand from Rajnikanth’s decision that there are many occasions in life when the power of No is more than that of Yes.

Rajinikanth has always had close proximity to politics even though not directly. In 1996, GK Mopanar left the Congress and formed a party called the Tamil Manila Congress. At that time, there was a Congress government at the centre and Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. Narasimha Rao wanted Rajinikanth to join the Congress. While campaigning during the assembly elections, he met Rajinikanth twice, but Rajinikanth did not join the Congress. The Congress then contested the election with AIADMK. In protest, GK Mopanar had aligned with the DMK. Rajinikanth also openly supported the alliance, which also won the election. Rajinikanth’s support is said to have played an important role in the victory.

That is where the speculation of Rajinikanth’s entry into politics began. Then there were many occasions when Rajinikanth could come into politics but waited for the right time. And now when everything seemed to be right, Rajinikanth said no to politics.

God and destiny have big roles to play in our life. Take for instance the case of former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe. He too left the PM’s chair owing to his ill-health. While, on the other hand, we have US President Donald Trump who doesn’t want to accept defeat even after losing an election.

What you do and decide creates or destroys your destiny. Rajinikanth has left everyone shocked by his decision not to join politics. However, just like his films, fans believe he will turn the impossible into the possible!
